'The Mind In The Cave'
'Cy Twombly-Cycles and Seasons'
Shows several of Twombly's most inspiring pieces... he has a child like presence within his work that is free, full of colour and at the height of abstraction! I love his work and have seen his large paintings when exhibited at the Tate Modern. I like how he is able to use such strong subject matters within his work that seems to capture the art of gestures and expression. Brilliant artist and well worth studying his work within the book :)
'Visions Of The Universe'
Was reading this as part of project about worlds within worlds .... showing ideas that the universe is full of variety- that the world of art is connected to the random creation that is made also within everything throughout the world.Linked again to themes of the natural and spirituality. Is not an art book as such, just showed me as it says... the universe and its beauty. Still reading this book....
'Gerhard Richter-100 pictures'

Possibly my favourite artist :) His work explores how the paint is in control of itself, that it has a life force and is bound to nature and gravity. It shows how paint can sink and pull and glide across a canvas also with a strength of bold colour. He allows the paint to rip through layers and build: which is a technique I love and have tried for myself. The book itself showed me several examples of his amazing pieces of work, some again that I have seen in large at the Tate Modern. It was when I saw them there infact that I first fell in love with his work....'Cage Paintings' I think was the name of the series that was being shown. I know also that he has created paintings that are made over the top of photography that I will also research up on at some point.
'The Artist In His Studio'
Was an interesting read I found, don't usually read so much into artist opinions, but found that the book proved that I should more. It gave information on the conversations of a variety of artists written in the 1960's...so you get to find out about the creative process and surrounding ideas that were actually within the minds of the great artists such as Matisse! I found to learn how they thought about colour for example made me feel like I could understand the importance within their ideas- some which I have crossed with before during studio work.... pretty interesting read lol i should read more lengthly books XD
'The Upset'

Packed full of large, vibrant mainly contemporary surrealist work... amazing artist's work included, in particular i liked the dark and skillful painting shown by many of the artists. Kind of book that should definitely be read for the shear amount of eye catching pieces!!Also included photo manipulated work and portraiture :)
Written by Lewis Williams... Book really interesting in my research of project as have been looking at the spirituality of ideas of a mother nature in connection to art and the natural world. Found this book really intriguing as describes ideas surrounding how humans can communicate and infuse themselves with spirits from primitive stages. The legends of Orpheus, Odysseus and Aeneas and earlier Mesopotamian heroes are shown as a reaccuring connection to the mythical element of human spiritual connection. Description of cave painting is told in connection to humans high religious and spiritual paths. Shapes and figurative images from the paintings on the cave walls related to feeling part of the animal world-believing they are animals, being in hallucinating states as they live through a world they believe is driven through natural human experiences like illnesses or even sexual desires
